A review of the Breville Scraper Mixer Pro #ScraperMixerPro

Lean in really close. I have a secret to tell you. The girl who hates cooking actually bakes. By bakes I mean every weekend I make cookies, muffins and other recipes that make the house smell good. I don’t blog about baking and I am not quite sure why. It’s not like people ever search for recipes on Pinterest do they? Uh huh.

Well do you want to know what I use to mix my ingredients with? A fork and a dollar store mixing bowl. It’s not pleasant. So when Breville asked if I wanted to try out their Scraper Mixer Pro, I was like “That’s got to better than my fork.”

The Breville Scraper Mix Pro

But that doesn’t make for a good product review. Because while I may be thrilled to no longer have to mix anything by hand, foodies and cooks are going to come across this and be like “You’re not helping me here, I need to know if it does this and that.” So what does a girl is impressed with having a mixer at all do? She gets in touch with one of her best friends Christine, who is a baker and has her own cake baking company. Where she does fancy things like whip buttercream and cake batter from scratch. I buy Betty Crocker. Yet even with a pre-made cake batter, there are huge differences with how light and fluffy your cake layers come out when you’re, you know, using a fork to mix.

She also made our wedding cake (those are the lyrics to our first dance on it).

Alex's Wedding 069A

What ensued was a back and forth conversation about some of the things she believes makes a good mixer.

  • How easy is it to attach and detach the mixing attachments (it should be easy)
  • Does the mixing bowl have a handle? This helps you to pour cake batter smoothly.
  • Is it sexy? No really, if that is sitting on your counter top it better look like a centerpiece.
  • Does it have a timer?
  • How loud is the machine when it’s working?
  • Does the bowl lock properly into place (this is one her biggest pet peeves)

Then I went over the Breville Scraper Pro with her and it met all of the above criteria and then some. Here are some key things about it that are great:

Breville Scraper Mixer Pro

  • The two beaters it comes with are very handy.
  • The baking terms are already on the side of the mixer so you can adjust your settings to the correct speed vs playing guess work with numbers. This is especially helpful to novice bakers.
  • Great price point as there was a time where you had to buy the accessories and attachments separately (this blew my mind).
  • The fact that the Breville comes with a front handle is very important in terms of ease of use. That is, when you need to add ingredients with your flour covered hands, lifting a heavy top needs to be easy.
  • The pouring shield is a great feature so your mix doesn’t go everywhere and letting you add ingredients, like the messy flour way much more easily.
  • It’s smooth surface eliminates the daunting task of cleaning old cake batter/icing.
  • Her favourite feature was the fact that the appliance cord stores back into the machine. No more cables and wasted space everywhere.

Isn’t that more helpful than me talking about why it’s awesome I don’t have to use a fork anymore?

May I also recommend checking out Breville’s video breaking down all the parts of the Scraper Mixer Pro for you.

PS – It also comes in black!
