Make your own Canada Day Ice Cream Sandwiches

As much as I would love to be the mother that makes ice cream from scratch, I’ve accepted that I will never be that mother. That doesn’t mean I don’t cook or bake, it’s quite the opposite. I live in the kitchen. What I have become is very proficient when it comes to cooking meals and food planning. So thanks to the encouragement of some wonderful friends in blogging, I think I am going to share some food, desserts and recipes on here from time to time in the future.

And the one thing you should know about me when it comes to food is I do not like complicated projects or recipes. We’re all busy people so if we can make or create a meal or dessert that makes our lives easier, I am all for it. In which case, when my friend Lucy over at Craftberry Bush rounded up her Canadian blogging friends to share with you some new Canada Day projects to help us celebrate Canada’s 150th Birthday this year, I thought it would be a great idea to share one of my favourite little food hacks for parties.

This one is obviously for Canada Day but you can tailor this to any holiday or party that you’re having just by visiting the bulk barn. And it will take you all of 5 minutes to make.

That’s right, 5 minutes.

Step 1

Buy ice cream sandwiches. Technically you can make them and there are some great recipes on Pinterest, but again, time and ease. I am a big fan of President’s Choice products. I should buy stock in their Sweet and Salty kettle popcorn.

Step 2

Buy sprinkles (sequins) from the Bulk Barn.

Step 3

Spread out your sprinkles on a plate, platter, aluminum foil or whatever flat surface you want. Then either roll or press the ice cream sandwich edges onto the sprinkles.

For round ice cream sandwiches I suggest actually using your *clean* hands to sprinkle them onto the cookie or you risk crumbling the cookie dough as you roll it. For rectangle ones, just gently press them into the pile.

Step 4 

Spend more time staging, photographing and editing your photos of your ice cream sandwiches than the time it took to make them. Avoid doing this when it’s 34 degrees outside and you’re melting inside your house. It’s 34 degrees outside.

Step 5

Enjoy Canada Day with your friends and family! Happy 150th to a country I love so much I practically named my blog after it.

    I love this! Time and ease!! I’m sooo making these for Kash this summer. Also – I need to buy stock in the sweet & salty kettle popcorn too, LOL!
