A #PCGarden Party

Do you know what happens when you finally have a backyard after 21 years of living in condos and apartments?

You become obsessive about it. Like “Honey we need another garden bed” obsessive about it. Where it’s gotten to a point where my husband James is like “Seriously Alex, how many plants are you planting?”

The answer is infinity. I would do well living on a farm at this point in my life. Next up, chickens in the suburbs.

Now because we do live quite a ways away from downtown Toronto, I rarely get back into the City. But when I got an invite to the PC (President’s Choice) Garden Party hosted by Lindsay from Little House Blog who is one of my favourite bloggers, I was like someone find me a babysitter. Which is about 99% of the reason I can’t get out to anything these days. So I found a babysitter (Thank you Heather!) and took off down the DVP to my old stomping ground.

This is by far and away one of the best parts of being a part of the blogging community. You essentially get to meet bloggers turned online friends whose paths you may never have come across if it wasn’t for this medium. And then when you finally have a chance to connect with them in real life and it’s like having a person just get what you do in the computer corner of your home and they share the same absurd excitement over decor and projects and becoming “that’ mother that you swore you never would be for your kids birthday parties.

And I’ve got to say that the Canadian blogging world has grown leaps and bounds in recent years and it’s also been really great to see companies and brands recognizing the talent pool here and collaborating with them on events and projects together.

And this one, was just right.

Flowers and plants at the PCGarden Party - northstory.ca

We got together to learn about gardening from gardening experts Peter Cantley and Bob Martin as well as some of the new offerings that PC has for everyone this season.

I am pretty sure I need to make this Sparkling Watermelon Refresher.

Then we got a chance to put together our own planters to take home.

Did I mention we got gardening gloves that you text in? No really, it’s like they knew I was coming. This is why your phone has a screen protector. Just go with it.

And aside from finally meeting Lindsay (who I need to trade thrift store finds with)…

Alex & Lindsay - northstory.ca

…I also got a chance to catch up with my other favourite blogger that I stalk, Lynne Knowlton. Where we did the mandatory Instagram selfie.

We finished the party just in time as this chaos happened outside.

The rain came just in time - northstory.ca

Then I just ate all the salmon cakes.

All this came home with me.

Plants we took home - northstory.ca

And the tomatoes including a Mighty Mato Indigo Rose (a black tomato that I had no idea existed!!) got planted into a new planter we made for the deck. Which James made out of the wood from our first garden bed that we recently took apart to make room for the new beds.

But that’s not all that came home with me.

I’ve also got a $50 PC Gift Card that you can win to shop for all of your gardening needs!

That way, you know, you don’t have to sneak in all of your gardening purchases amidst your Joe Fresh purchases after you leave the GoodLife gym at your local SuperStore when you tell your husband you’re just getting milk.
